Over 2,000 women set to join agitation

Description

Over 2,000 women from families of farmers protesting against the Centre’s new agriculture laws at Singhu Border here will join the ongoing agitation in the coming days. The farmers are preparing to intensify their protest to press their demand for repeal of the laws. Farmer leaders said they are making arrangements to host the women, coming from various parts of Punjab. Tents are being put up, and a separate langar is being planned. Extra temporary toilets are also being arranged. The aim is to give them a safe and comfortable environment to stay at the protest site, they said. Farmer leader Harendir Singh Lakhowal said a Delhi-based outfit donated around 200 tents on Sunday that are now being put up at Singhu as well as Tikri borders. Some people have also offered their flats for temporary accommodation. Shiv Kumar Kakka, one of the 33 farmers who observed a hunger strike at Singhu border on Monday, said it is not an agitation of Punjab farmers alone, but of farmers from across India.
