The district witnessed the second Covid death today after a 56-year-old woman from Bhambhri village in the Khamano sub-division died due to the disease at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.Earlier, a 53-year-old man from Mandi Gobindgarh had died due to Covid at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. His wife and two close contacts had also tested positive for the virus.19 active casesTill Thursday, the department has collected 11,659 samples. Of these, 10,985 tested negative and 139 positive. As 118 patients have been cured, there are now 19 active cases in the district.Meanwhile, seven new cases surfaced in the district today. A data entry operator and a technician at the Civil Surgeon’s Office were found infected. The Civil Surgeon, Dr NK Aggarwal, and three doctors of the Civil Hospital, who were in touch with these employees, gave their samples for testing and quarantined themselves in their houses.Sources said the Deputy Commissioner had also quarantined herself as she had not been attending the office for the past two days. The District Administrative Complex was sanitised today as some of the infected employees attended video-conferences held at the complex.According to the Health Department, seven positives were cured and discharged from Gian Sagar hospital, Banur. Till today, the department has collected 11,659 samples, of these 10985 tested negative and 139 positive. As 118 patients have been cured, there are now 19 active cases in the district.
