Accusing the Narendra Modi government of not paying attention to farmers and their requirements, the Bharatiya Kisan Union will observe April 17 as International Farmers Day.They have demanded a comprehensive package of Rs 1.5 lakh crore for farmers to overcome setbacks amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has urged farmers to stand outside their homes at 5 pm on April 17 and share photos and videos while cleaning agricultural implements and equipment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, respective Chief Ministers and the social media.The BKU has been holding agitations for farmers and their issues from time to time, said Tikait, reminding of its efforts in the past that were responsible for bringing big changes on the national and international arena."The BKU wants a comprehensive package of Rs 1.5 lakh crore for farmers. It wants employment under MGNREGA for farmers and a Rs 1,000 benefit for agricultural labour," he said.
