Fatehgarh Sahib, January 1BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) chief Jagjit Singh Dalewal today said the union would burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the district headquarters across the state during his slated Punjab visit on January 5 to apprise him of the promises made to the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and implement the special investigation team report on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.Need to have a pressure groupThe farmers must have a powerful pressure group, not a political party. The SSM has taken a wrong decision in haste, which may weaken the SKM. Jagjit S Dalewal, BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) ChiefTalking to mediapersons here, he said the government had formed the SIT to probe the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and the SIT had submitted its report a month ago, yet no action had been taken so far.Replying to a query, he said their organisation was non-political and believed in mounting pressure to ensure issues related to farmers could be resolved. “The farmers must have a powerful pressure group, not a political party,” he asserted.Dalewal said everyone had the right to contest the elections, but the Samyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) had decided to take the political plunge without BKU (Ekta Sidhupur)’s consent. “They have taken a wrong decision in haste, which may weaken the SKM. It may put a question mark on the integrity of the morcha,” he said.A committee regarding the minimum support price (MSP) was yet to be formed. Moreover, justice in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident was awaited and all cases registered against protesting farmers were yet to be withdrawn, he added.
