Mohit Hooda, farmer, Rurki village“Our fields are waterlogged following the recent spell of rain, which is damaging the standing wheat crop in our village as well as the neighbouring villages,” says Mohit Hooda, a young farmer of Rurki village in Rohtak district.Amarjeet, Surender and Dalel Dhaka of Sundana village in the district point out that water has accumulated in around 300 acres of land, due to which wheat crop is getting damaged. The farmers have demanded a special girdawari to assess the damage caused to their crop and then suitable compensation.Meanwhile, the All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has decided to stage a demonstration to demand a special girdawari, compensation for kharif crops and raise other concerns of farmers at the local mini secretariat on January 19.“Wheat crop has been damaged in dozens of villages of Rohtak district due to the recent spell of rain. The compensation for the damage caused to paddy and cotton crops is also pending,” said Preet Singh, the president of the district unit of the AIKS.
