Activists celebrate farmers’ win in agitation on Delhi border
Description
Activists associated with various organisations celebrated farmers’ victory in the prolonged agitation on the Delhi border against the three controversial farm laws, among other issues, by bursting crackers and distributing sweets at SVP Circle here on Saturday. Former deputy chairman of Legislative Council B.R. Patil, State secretary of Raitha Krishi Karmikara Sanghatane H.V. Diwakar, district secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) K. Neela, All-India Kisan Sabha leader Bhimashankar Madyal, leaders of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Umapathi Malipatil and Mallannagouda were among the leaders participated in the event. “With their uncompromised and determined struggle for over one year, the farmers have finally won the battle. The people’s power has defeated the political power. The BJP and the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had tried to label the protesting farmers as terrorists and anti-nationals in the initial stage, had to bend before the same farmers. It is a victory in one battle. But the war for farmers’ rights will continue,” Mr. Patil told The Hindu at the celebration site. He added that the struggle for repealing what he called “anti-farmer amendments” to the Land Reforms Act and APMC Act in Karnataka would continue with more vigour. Terming the farmers’ agitation a historic, Ms. Neela said that it had shown that collective and uncompromised resistance of the oppressed communities could defeat the corporate-backed rulers. “The crisis-ridden capitalism tends to unleash more intensified attacks on the working class in the days to come. The oppressed people will also have to wage more intensified and heroic battles to defeat capitalism and establish a new society free from exploitation. The corporate class is the real enemy. The farmers’ struggle has exposed both the corporate class and their representatives in the government. The protracted struggle has infused a great deal of confidence among the toiling masses,” Ms. Neela said.
