A large number of activists, who were protesting at several chowks in the city against the farm laws, rejoiced as one of the SKM leaders, Rakesh Tikait, visited Matka Chowk to celebrate the repeal of the laws by the Centre.The crowd waited for Tikait to show up at the chowk for nearly three hours as Tikait arrived in the city at 9 pm. Standing atop a tractor-trailer, parked near Labh Singh’s makeshift tent, Tikait extended gratitude to the city folks who protested against the laws. “I would also like to thank the youth of the country, who extended their invaluable support to us. This protest is the protest of the people, for the people and by the people. In this protest, everyone, from safai karmchaaris to NRIs, contributed,” he said.The elated crowd sang and danced to express their happiness over Tikait’s arrival and eagerly waited to click selfies with the farm leader.‘Fateh rally’ at Mani MajraMembers of the Mani Majra Youth Unity organised a “fateh rally” to celebrate the repeal of the farm laws. Several people toured the streets of Mani Majra and raised pro-farmer slogans to announce their victory as they marched from Gurdwara Dehra Sahib to the Motor Market, Jama Masjid, Pipliwala Town, Modern Complex and then to Dehra Gurdwara Sahib. Rattan Singh, one of the organisers, said, “The rally was organised to express happiness over the repeal of farm laws. About 100 people marched on foot throughout Mani Majra. They danced and rejoiced and were served langar at the rally.” — TNS
