Farmers allege urea shortage in Bhiwani

Description

After the shortage of diammonia phosphate (DAP) during the sowing of the rabi crops about two months ago, farmers are now running short of urea fertiliser, needed at the time of the first watering of the rabi crops in the region.Farmers, especially in Bhiwani district which is the home district of the state agriculture minister JP Dalal, said they had to wait for hours in queues at the fertiliser sale points to purchase urea bags. The farmers said this was the right time for sprinkling urea in the rabi crops wheat and mustard.Lacchi Ram, a farmer of Gignau village of Bhiwani district, said the farmers were not getting adequate bags of the urea fertiliser. “It needs to be sprinkled in the crops at the time of irrigating the fields. The crops are in dire need to be irrigated which cannot be delayed. If the urea is sprinkled three days after irrigating the field, it will be of no use”, he said.BKU leader from Bahal, Ravi Azad, said there was a heavy shortage of urea in the region. However, the deputy director of the Agriculture Department Atma Ram Godara stated that there was no shortage of urea in the district today. We have got 1830 MT fertiliser from the centre today, besides additional 600 MT from Hisar district. All sale points have urea in store,” he said. — TNS
