A debt-ridden farmer, identified as Sukhdev Singh (58), allegedly ended his life by consuming poison, in Saner village of Zira sub-division of the district.As per information, the deceased had five acres of agricultural land and he had a debt of over Rs 7 lakh towards banks and commission agents which he was unable to pay.Sukhdev was an active member of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Qadian) and had also gone to the Singhu border to participate in the ongoing agitation against the agricultural laws.He is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. Expressing grief on the tragic incident, BKU (Qadian) block president Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, Saner sarpanch Angrej Singh urged the government to come to rescue of the aggrieved family members. — OC
