The Ambala police have booked 17 farmers under charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, voluntarily obstructing public servant in discharge of his public functions and using criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty in connection with the farmers’ protest in Barara on Friday.The case has been registered against BKU (Charuni) Ambala president Malkit Singh, Gulab Singh, Amarjeet, Mahinder, Jodh Singh, Sham Singh, Rohit, Baljinder Singh, Happy, Puppy, Happy Saini, Davindu, Vikram, Labh Singh, Sadha Singh, Surjit and Asvinder under Sections 148, 149, 186, 188, 332, 341 and 353 of the IPC at Barara police station.In his complaint, Head Constable Surender Singh stated that BJP leaders had organised a meeting at Barara on October 1. Meanwhile, BKU activists started holding a protest there.The duty magistrate attempted to pacify the farmers but the activists were adamant. They also blocked the Dosarka-Shahabad road.They allegedly pushed the on-duty officials and obstructed public servants in the discharge of their duties.
