Famers protest at event of BJP's Indri MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap
Description
Situation remained tense for a couple of hours at the Indri police station today after the police detained farmers for allegedly protesting the visit of Indri MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap to the district’s Gudha village. The MLA was in the village to distribute wheat at a PDS (Public Distribution System) ration depot during the Annapurna Utsav. Jagdeep Singh Aulakh, a BKU (Charuni) leader, said: “BJP-JJP leaders have been warned against organising programmes, but they don’t pay heed to our word.” The farmers were opposing the MLA’s programme peacefully when they were detained. On getting information, BKU leaders gave a call to gherao the Indri police station. Around 11.30 am, farmers started assembling outside the police station. One of protesters, Bhahdur Singh Mehla, said: “Farmers have filed a complaint against Kashyap for hitting farmers on Tuesday in Chaugama village. No action has been taken against him.” Farmers were released after a couple of hours of protest by BKU activists. — TNS
