BKU (Mann) activists, who had been staging a dharna at Mathana village seeking the arrest of BKU (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh and BKU national spokesman Rakesh Tikait, on Monday postponed their protest for 15 days after the administration assured them of appropriate action on their complaints.BKU (Mann) vice-president Narpat Rana also ended his fast unto death and was taken to a hospital for treatment.Earlier in the day, the BKU (M) activists had started erecting a wall on the Kurukshetra-Saharanpur highway, disturbing the vehicular traffic for nearly an hour. Ladwa SDM Anubhav Mehta, DSP Bharat Bhushan and other officials reached the spot and managed to pacify them.Meanwhile, BKU (M) state president Guni Prakash said: “The government has failed to take action against Gurnam Singh Charuni and Rakesh Tikait, who have been misguiding the farmers. As per our ultimatum, we blocked the highway by erecting a wall on the road. After an assurance given by the local administration, we have postponed our agitation for 15 days. In case, Gurnam is not arrested, we will resume our agitation.”The SDM, however, said: “We have apprised the higher authorities about their demand and an action will be taken on their complaints as per the law.”On the other hand, BKU (Charuni) activists on Monday held a protest near the irrigation rest house in Pehowa against the BJP leaders who had reached there to hold a block-level meeting.BJP Leaders face farmers’ wrathBKU (Charuni) activists on Monday protested near the irrigation rest house in Pehowa against the BJP leaders who reached there for a block-level meeting.
