Bhartiya Kisan Union chiefs of UP and Kheri dist booked under Gangster Act

Description

BAREILLY: Five people — including Bhartiya Kisan Union’s UP chief Rakesh Singh and Kheri district unit president Shyamu Shukla — were booked for abetment of suicide of Trivendra Kumar, 23, a village development officer (VDO) posted in Gola tehsil, who had ended his life in September last year, after allegedly harassed by the accused due to his Dalit identity. All the accused were sent to jail but later they were granted relief by the high court. After Kumar’s death, a video surfaced in which both Singh and Shukla were purportedly seen insulting the victim at a union meeting. Sadar kotwali station officer Sunil Singh said, “Other criminal cases are also registered against Shyam Shukla and Rakesh Singh. During the investigation, it was found that the accused are involved in organised crime, and after considering all these factors, we have booked them under the Gangster Act. The accused are absconding, but we will arrest them soon.”
