Tribune News ServiceChandigarh, March 10The Congress’ no-trust vote against the BJP-JJP government was today defeated, with 55 members polling against the motion and 32 backing it even as there was consensus on ending the stalemate and resumption of talks between farmers’ unions and the government. The motion, moved by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, was taken up immediately after the question hour.The legislators voted along the party lines in the 90-member House. All 39 MLAs of the BJP, 10 JJP, five Independents and one of the Haryana Lokhit Party voted against the motion. The 30 Congress MLAs and two Independents — Balraj Kundu and Sombir Sangwan —backed the motion. Two seats are vacant, while Speaker Gian Chand Gupta was presiding over the proceedings.Middle path mustThe farmers should resume talks and reach a middle-ground with the Centre. Water entered their camps, soaking their mats and other belongings, while high-velocity winds damaged their makeshift abode, it is learnt. TNSJJP legislator Devinder Babli, who wanted the party to sever ties with the BJP, toed the party line as did Ram Kumar Gautam. Both have been proactively supporting the farmers. The two, however, did lodge a protest for not being given a chance to participate in the discussion, which lasted six hours and was followed by a voting on the motion by the Speaker.The consensus of the discussion was the talks with farmers must resume even as CM ML Khattar clearly said the laws won’t be repealed.Hooda said: “We managed to put public sentiment in the spotlight and exposed the government’s ill-intention on the farm protests.” 2 more arrested for Red Fort violenceThe Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has arrested two more accused — Maninderjit Singh and Khempreet Singh — for role in Red Fort violence. Maninderjit, a Dutch national, was arrested from the IGI Airport while trying to flee the country. Khempreet, 21, was arrested on Tuesday after a raid in Delhi. TNS
