Tribune News ServiceBathinda, December 4In a noble gesture towards farmers protesting against the contentious laws at the Delhi borders, a team of doctors and pharmacy officers serving in government-run hospitals in Mansa district have taken leave to start a free medical camp at the Tikri border. The team left for Delhi on Friday afternoon after buying medicines and medical equipment.To help women, kidsA sizable chunk of the protesting farmers include elderly, kids and women and if the required medical help is given on time, our job is done. - Vishavdeep Khanda, Surveillance officer“At such a massive gathering, medical service is a must and we want to do our bit by providing free medicines and medical help (basic emergency services) to those in need,” a team member said.The team includes Dr Arshdeep Singh, district epidemiologist, Mansa; Dr Vishavjeet Singh Khanda (Ayurvedic); Sukhwinder Singh, pharmacy officer; Jatinder Singh, executive member of the Bathinda Thalassemia Welfare Society; and Gursharan Singh, an engineer who often organises medical camps to provide free services to people in the region.Talking to The Tribune, Dr Arshdeep Singh said: “We stand with the protesting farmers in their just fight seeking revocation of the farm laws. We wanted to do our bit for the cause so we contacted people in our network and found volunteers. We will reach the Tikri border on Friday evening and start a free medical camp at the protest venue right away. There have been a few deaths at the protest sites recently, so we believe that precious lives of farmers can be saved if they are given the required first aid and emergency medical services.” Meanwhile, doctors of government and private sectors in Patiala have also announced to provide free medical treatment to the protesting farmers.
