The Haryana Police on Wednesday arrested four members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly and wrongful restraint, for the alleged attack on the vehicle of Kurukshetra MP Nayab Singh during a protest on Tuesday. A large number of farmers held a sit-in outside the Shahbad police station in Kurukshetra in protest against the arrests. Mr. Singh had gone to Majri Mohalla for a personal visit on Tuesday, when BKU members began protesting outside the house he was visiting. After he came out of the house and entered his car, the protesters surrounded the vehicle, raised slogans and showed black flags. A few of them even tried to pull Mr. Singh out of the vehicle, while others sat on the bonnet, the police said. They also smashed the rear windscreen of the car. The police had a tough time excorting him out of the area. While 11 people have been named in the FIR, eight to 10 are unidentified. The police said they had a video of the incident clearing showing the protesters trying to pull out the legislator and smashing the windscreen of the vehicle. Those arrested were produced before the court and sent to jail.
