Farmers protest against laws, rise in fuel price

Description

Farmers rode bullock carts to the Rani Channamma Circle to protest against farm laws and the fuel price rise in Belagavi on Friday. They blocked roads at the circle for a few minutes and shouted slogans against the Union and the State governments. The police had to divert traffic away from the circle to the camp area, Dr. Ambedkar Road, and Triveni Circle. They said that by implementing the farm Bills, the governments had shown that they were anti-farmer in essence and that they wanted to help corporate companies. The farmers accused the Central and the State governments of playing into the hands of multi-national corporations by tweaking laws and policies in their favour, even when they were hurting the interests of farmers and the poor. The protesters said that the Union government had turned deaf to the farmers who were protesting for 100 days at the Delhi border. They accused the government of diverting the attention from the protests and for terming the protesters as Khalistanis and terrorists. They demanded the immediate repeal of the three Central laws and the amended land reforms Act. They also demanded that the government withdraw the land acquisition Act. They urged the government to stop plans to privatise electricity distribution and rejuvenate APMCs that were suffering due to the new laws.
