Another wanted accused in connection with the Red Fort violence on Republic Day was arrested by the Delhi police from Punjab. A court has sent him to seven days police custody, said an officer on Wednesday. DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that the accused Iqbal Singh, carrying a bounty of Rs. 50,000, was arrested from Hoshiarpur in Punjab on Tuesday night by the northern range of Delhi Police’s Special Cell. On, January 26, he was seen instigating the mob. In a video he livestreamed on Facebook, he was heard asking the mob to attack the police if they didn’t open the Red Fort gate peacefully. “He is a resident of Ludhiana and used to frequently visit the farmers’ protest at the Singhu border. He came to Singhu border on January 22 for the proposed tractor rally and on January 25 he stayed at a gurdwara in Delhi,” said a senior police officer. He was absconding after the violence. After the arrest he has been handed over to Crime Branch for further investigation. The police said that he is one of the conspirators in the violence that happened at the Red Fort. . They will question him over other people’s role in the conspiracy. “We will find out if he and Deep Sidhu were in association. He will be questioned over his association with a media house that livestreamed the violence at Red Fort. He will be questioned over his connection with any foreign based organisation. The mobile phone he used at Red Fort is yet to be recovered, said an officer.
