Description
One farmer died as his tractor overturned and 83 police personnel and many farmers were injured in clashes between them at several places during a tractor parade in the national capital on Tuesday. Scores of tear gas shells were fired at the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, ITO, Singhu border, Nangloi, Peeragarhi, near the Red Fort and other places to disperse crowds. The police appealed to them to stick to the designated route for the rally and not take law in their hands. Police Commissioner S.N. Shrivastava said public property had been damaged and many policemen received injuries in the violence. He appealed to the protesting farmers not to indulge in violence, maintain peace and return through the designated routes. The police filed four FIRs for damaging public property and attacking police personnel in the Delhi area. In a statement, the police said, “The Delhi police showed resistance till the very end but protesting farmers breached the agreement and began their tractor march before the scheduled time.”
