500 protesters to leave for Delhi on Jan. 11

Description

The first group of thousand protesters from Kerala to take part in the ongoing farmers’ struggle against the three farm laws enacted by the Central government will begin their journey from Kannur on January 11. All India Kisan Sabha vice president S. Ramachandran Pillai will flag off the buses in which 500 protesters will be travelling to the national capital. Second batch The second batch of 500 will begin their journey on January 21. In a press release issued here on Tuesday, the Kerala Karshaka Sangham said that indefinite strikes in solidarity with the protests were going on at all the fourteen district centres in the State. The sangham said that the three farm laws were meant to surrender to the monopolistic corporates not just the lives of the country’s farmers, but that of every citizen. Contract farming It was aimed at creating profits for the corporates through contract farming. The Minimum Support Price system for farm produce would come to an end and corporates would purchase these in bulk at low rates, pushing farmers to hunger. This would also eventually destroy the Food Corporation of India and the rationing system. This would result in creating major problems for States such as Kerala that depended on other States for foodgrains, according to the sangham.
